Gatefall privacy policy
Gatefall is a location-based game made by Boko Games ("we", "us"). This policy says what the game collects,
why, who receives it, how long we keep it, and how you delete it. It covers the Gatefall app for Android
(com.bokogames.gatefall) and the game servers it talks to.
Questions or requests: dev@bokogames.com.
What the game collects and why
Your location
- The game reads your precise location only while the app is open and the map is on screen. It stops when you close the map or switch to another app. Gatefall does not ask for background location and never reads your location when it is closed.
- It sends your position to our server to place gates around you, to check that you reached a gate before you enter it, and to stop cheating: the server flags fake GPS apps and speeds no person on foot can reach.
- The map is drawn from map tiles that the app downloads from our own server for the area around you.
Your steps (Health Connect)
- If you allow it, the game reads one number from Health Connect: your total step count for today. It reads it while the app is open, when you open the map and every few minutes after that. It never writes to Health Connect and reads no other health data.
- The step count is sent to our server for the daily quest. The server keeps the highest total it received for each day.
- Your step data is used only for the daily quest. It is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with anyone else. Our use of data received from Health Connect follows the Health Connect permissions policy, including its limited use requirements.
- You can turn the permission off at any time in Health Connect. The game keeps working; only the daily quest stops counting steps.
Your account
- You sign in with Google Play Games. Google gives our server your Play Games player ID. We create a random account ID for you and link it to that player ID. We do not receive your name, email address or contacts.
- The app keeps a sign-in token on your phone so you stay signed in. Our server stores only a one-way hash of that token.
- Test builds given to alpha testers sign in with the phone's Unity device ID instead of Play Games.
Your game progress
- Your class, level, experience, skills, items and crystals, the gates you cleared, and the fights you played, including the moves and timing taps of each fight. The server needs them to run the game and to check that a fight result is real.
Crash reports and usage events
- When the app crashes, it sends a crash report to Sentry: the error, the app version, the device model and operating system, and your account ID.
- The app sends usage events to PostHog, hosted in the European Union: for example "gate seen", "fight finished" or "level up", with the app version, the platform and your account ID. These events carry your distance to a gate in meters, never your coordinates, and never your step count.
- We use them to find bugs and to see which parts of the game work.
What the game does not collect
- Your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or advertising ID.
- There is no chat and no player name, so other players see nothing about you.
- The current version has no ads and no purchases. If a later version adds them, we will update this policy before that version is released.
Who receives the data
| Who | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Our game servers, run by us | Location, steps, account and game progress | To run the game |
| Cloudflare | All traffic between the app and our servers passes through it | Secure connection and protection from attacks |
| Play Games sign-in; Play services computes your location on the phone; Health Connect stores your steps on the phone | Sign-in, location, steps | |
| Sentry | Crash reports | Fixing bugs |
| PostHog (EU) | Usage events | Improving the game |
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers. Each service above receives your IP address as part of any internet connection. The Unity engine the game is built with may also send Unity Technologies basic technical information about the device, such as its model and operating system version, that does not identify you.
How long we keep it
- Location: your last position and your position history are deleted after 7 days. Gates placed just for you at your position are deleted with them.
- Account, game progress and daily step totals: until you delete your account.
- Sign-in tokens: each one expires after 30 days.
- Crash reports and usage events: up to 12 months, then the services delete them.
Deleting your account and data
You can ask us to delete your account and all its data at any time. See how to delete your Gatefall account. Uninstalling the app does not delete your account on our server.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including Israel and the European Union, you may have the right to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, and to object to how we use it. Write to dev@bokogames.com and we will answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Israel, that is the Privacy Protection Authority.
Security
The app talks to our servers only over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Sign-in tokens are stored as hashes. Only we can access the servers.
Children
Gatefall is not made for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your data, the game will tell you before it takes effect.
